I don't know, but it seems to me that both John Ashdown Hill and Phillipa Langley should be rewarded by some sort of honour for the remarkable work that they did in finding Richard III's body.
No one else was really taking the search seriously, and they were proved to be right.
This is one of the great archaeological finds in recent years. It has a bearing on the state and they deserve recognition.

I'm certain neither of them will get anything gong related due to HM's lack of interest. They did receive Life Membership of the Society though and both seemed very pleased.

The Honours system is managed by the Cabinet Office at No10 Downing St. and anyone can nominate someone for an honour. Naturally there is a descriptive form to fill in and the nomination has to be supported by 2 further letters from other people.

Would it be possible for the society to make nominations?

As far as I'm aware, anyone can make nominations. Regardless, the Queen's interest, or lack of (we really don't know what she thinks and that's a deliberate policy she's always employed), is irrelevant. The only honour within her personal gift is the Order of Merit - hence it being known as the most exclusive club in the world.
