Just seen a report on Sky News about the new Shakespeare's Richard III at Nottingham. They are trying to make out that they are using the discovery of Richard's skeleton to be more accurate about his scoliosis and how he died. There was an interview with the actor who is playing him who says that he thought that his portrayal would be the most accurate ever and indeed he did have one shoulder higher than the other when he was facing the front, however, when he turned sideways he had a hump on his back!!! What is it that these idiots don't understand about scoliosis not being a hunchback but one shoulder higher than the other and in Richard's case was not visible under clothing. Lin Foxhall was on waxing lyrical about "our discovery" and the whole thing came over as if Shakespeare was history. Perhaps people just can't understand plain English.

The actor, excellent though I am sure he is, was also a lot older than the 32 Richard was when he died.
