August Trip
August Trip
Re: August Trip
What a fabulous thesis. If you are staying in London, York and Leicester are fairly easily reached by train, although you would need to book a hotel for when you arrived.. You could look at "the train line.com" for cheaper tickets if you book in advance. They do some really good deals. However, if you want to get out to Bosworth etc you would need to hire a car in Leicester or somewhere like that.
It sounds as if you will have a wonderful trip, and I for one would love to read the thesis.

Hello, all, I hope that everyone is well. I was planning a two week trip to the UK in August 2014 during my summer break before starting my third year at West Chester University, working on a bachelor's/Masters in History.. My hotel will be in London, but since this trip is also part of my research for school, can anyone give me some advice on getting around to York, Leicester and the other major sites. (By the way, if anyone is curious, the working title for this project/thesis/book is "Redeeming Richard III: A Fresh Look at England's Most Maligned Monarch")
Re: August Trip
If you are travelling by train, there are direct trains from London to both York and Leicester. You can also get between Leicester and York but would need to change somewhere (Derby I think). If you want to go to Middleham, I think you would have to drive or get a bus from York.
These websites should help you plan your journeys
www.nationalrail.co.uk

If you are driving check out the RAC or AA websites.

I've every intention of publishing it once I finish school. One of the things that I really want to attend is the re-enactments at Bosworth, which is why I decided to come over in August instead of June or July. As soon as the dates are set for it, I'll start booking flights, hotels, and transportation.

Re: August Trip
Ripon or Richmond to Middleham and they are very very infrequent. They are also
faced with Government cuts from January 2014. I had a nightmare trying to get
there this summer (and I can't drive!). Also better to drive if you're going to
Sheriff Hutton. There is a bus service to there from York or Malton, but again
it's infrequent, only about 4 a day, but does allow sufficient time to explore
the castle area and church.
