Woodville wills.

Woodville wills.

Jan here.
Can anybody help me locate a copy of the wills of Richard Woodville died 1441 and / or Richard Woodvile first Earl Rivers died 1469? I can cope with simple Latin but not with early handwriting. I'm still trying to firm up their connections with The Moat near Maidstone to account for how a Northamptonshire gentry family got into Kent and paved the way for the later October Rebellion.
I would be grateful for your advice and guidance.
Season's greetings!
Jan.

Hi Jan I can't help you on the former but you could try the national archives website search (beware of varied spellings). I seem to recall that the Woodvilles were already in Kent and had been for some time? That's not at all unusual at this time; I have families who are Escheators in Staffs but own property in Herts, Bucks and Northants (usually through gift or marriage). I recall there's quite a bit about the Moat on the web and it seems reasonable - but I'm always a bit wary about some 'histories'.
