The Armourer
The Armourer
Jan here.
In Chris Skidmore's book Bosworth I came across the following in the narrative of what happened after Bosworth:
Mindful of the value of having skilled craftsmen working there [in the Tower], and perhaps even impressed at the sight of the dead king's own armour and weaponry in battle, Henry also reappointed Richard III's armourer Vincencio Tutolez as his official armourer with a salary of £20 a year.
Now I never heard of VT before reading Bosworth. CS does not give his source in the notes for this chapter of his book but I assume there would be a mention in the Patent Rolls or H7's account books. From his name I guess VT might have been Spanish or Italian. If you have heard Dr T Capwell lecturing on RIII's armour you will understand why I'd like to know more.
Has anybody come across references to VT before now, possibly someone who has studied H7's reign?
