Marie Antoinette - A suitable "partner" for Richard?
Marie Antoinette - A suitable "partner" for Richard?

I am very interested in archeology, and so history in general. I was reading an article today on Marie Antoinette and was suddenly struck by many parallels with Richardhttp://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2011/12/marie-antoinette-never-said-let-them-eat-cakeThe only problem may be that Yahoo will put spaces at random places in the url to stop it being clickable. So you will have to copy-and-paste it, but delete the spaces before you try to go to the address. This seems to be part of Yahoo Groups' security unfortunately.I had always thought Richard's case to be unique, but now I am questioning just how much "history" as we are taught, is actually more like the survivors propaganda?Perhaps I should not be so taken aback, when our own Sir Winston Churchill seems to have been fully aware of it:http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/97949-history-is-written-by-the-victorsTony

An interesting thought and an interesting piece about Marie Antoinette. I had no idea she was accused of incest with her own son, poor woman

As a student of Richard's since the age
of 7 and a student of the French Revolution since I was 15 I have
never noticed any similarity whatsoever between the French Queen
and our English monarch.
Yes the accusation of incest at her trial was a step too far for
the prosecution, and it was howled down by the majority of the
spectators, the women in particular, but Marie Antoinette spent
her entire youth closeted away inside Versailles, knowing nothing
of what her people were suffering, and seeming to care little, or
show any interest in their welfare. She appeared to have no idea
how low in people's estimation her reputation had sunk, appalling
low by the time of the affair of the diamond necklace, a few years
before the revolution began, when most people believed her capable
of being involved with a disgraced bishop, a conjurer, and a
prostitute, in an extraordinary plot to cheat the court jewellers
of a fortune by stealing the incredibly expensive necklace they
had fashioned for the queen.
When the revolution began she worked tirelessly to overturn it,
encouraging her Austrian family to invade and restore her husband,
who was probably bi polar and suffered bouts of intesne
depression, during which his queen dominated him and the political
scene. By encouraging Louis to flee abroad with his family, she
condemned the monarchy to its fate, and with her treacherous
correspondence with foreign powers she committed treason, so in
reality she deserved her fate.
