Jan Mulrenan
Jan here.
The scientists, Dr Turi King being named for one, want to map the king's genome. I found this via a BBC local news link. Horrified fascination is one reaction. This has to be done before the king is re-interred. Why? Hasn't enough material been taken from his remains already? Apparently after this he can be left in peace. I should think so. After this surely more will be known about his body than any other deceased royal figure, yet paradoxically very little still about what sort of man he was.
I think I'll keep quiet now.

Carol responds:
Thanks very much for this link, Jan. But "ancient history"? The author treats Richard's reign as if it were as distant as ancient Greece--or even the Neanderthals! I think the people of our era have lost all sense of perspective, not realizing how short a time five hundred-odd years is in the history of this earth or even of humankind. I will, however, be mildly interested in learning whether Richard was lactose intolerant. We never hear of the wealthy people of his time eating cheese. They didn't know what they were missing! And, of course, the hair, skin, and eye color will be important for those of us who want to know what Richard looked like.
