I know grossly off topic so briefly and with
apologies...

Whilst the gown was undoubtedly one of Rose Bertin's
masterpieces and pricey the cost of the gown was
dwarfed by the actually cost of the ceremony itself
(partially because Louis wouldn't countenance the
cheaper ceremony that Turgot <sp> pushed for). Louis
XVI's own clothing was vastly expensive and he even
had a new crown commissioned because his grandfather's
didn't fit.
