Anniversary.
Anniversary.
Isn't today the anniversary of Queen Anne's death? There's not a cloud in the sky where I am & spring flowers are well out.
Losecoat Field was fought on 12th & Nibley Green's anniversary falls on 20th.

Re: Anniversary.
But seriously a sad anniversary.....Richard must have felt like he had been hit with a pole axe after suffering the death of his little son only the previous year....no time to take breath really before the invasion of HT and betrayal by the Stanley's ....Shakespeare wrote, I believe, that his last shouts were "Treason, treason...." and for once I believe he got it right. I believe that was indeed the last throughts running through his head. Eileen
Re: Anniversary.
That I do believe! And, perhaps Shakespeare was sympathetic……. I cannot imagine how Richard had the heart and stamina to go on. He was born not to be a king, be he was a great one.

Carol responds:
If I recall correctly, the "treason! treason! treason!" line comes from Rous. Shakespeare gave Richard the too-famous (and wholly fictional) last words: "A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!" I believe, though I'm too tired (okay, too lazy) to check, that More borrowed the "treason! treason!" line for his withered arm/strawberries/council meeting scene. Can't recall whether Vergil used it in either instance.

Re: Anniversary.
Hope you had a wonderful birthday, Eileen. Sorry it's a little late, we've been out most of the day.
So sad to remember Queen Anne. May she rest in peace.

Re: Anniversary.
It is between Queen Elizabeth, Rivers, Buckingham, Stanley and Richard.
Richard begins
"They do me wrong, and I will not endure it.
Who are they that complain unto the king that I forsooth am stern and love them not?
By holy Paul they love his grace but lightly that fill his ears with such dissentious rumours.
Because I cannot flatter and look fair,
Smile in men's faces, smooth, deceive and cog,
Duck with French nods and apish courtesy,
I must be held a rancorous enemy.
Cannot a plain man live and think no harm,
but that his simple truth must be abused.
it continues.... including...
Ere you were queen or your husband king
I was a pack horse in his great affairs;
A weeder out of his proud adversaries;
A liberal rewarder of his friends
to royalize his blood I spilled mine own.
Buckingham to Rivers a line I love
'Those that fly high have many blasts to shake them, and when they fall they dash themselves to pieces."
Act 1 Scene III if anyone wants to look up the whole scene.

I was born the same year as pop singer Sting. He is
now 6 years younger than me. How did he do that? :-)

Re: Anniversary.
Stars seem to do that……I simply detest this quest to be young, and stay young come hell or high water! Plastic surgery, shaving years off your age, who cares? And plastic surgery certainly does not fool anyone, and in fact leaves most looking quite hideous.
