Leicester cathedral plans
Re: Leicester cathedral plans
Kay, thank you for posting the link to the windows. Tom Denny is a master at his craft, and I was gratified to read and hear, that the story of Richard will be told as one of a good, even great man, who suffered through many things, and will now be properly honored 500 years after his life and reign ended.

If anyone had trouble finding the cathedral's article on the new Richard III windows, the link is:

There's a link to the interview with the artist at the bottom of that page.
There's been a major landscaping effort for the previously rather undistinguished area in front of the church, enlarging it and creating a park-like area called Cathedral Gardens . It will not only provide a more attractive approach to the building, but it also will provide a large open space where outdoor events can be held. The cathedral has been posting pictures periodically as the work proceeded. Recently, the refurbished statue of Richard was put in place, and the gardens will be formally opened July 5.

The new R3 museum is across the Gardens from the cathedral.
Major alterations to the interior of the cathedral are going forward. They had to wait to get authorization to proceed until the PA lawsuit was settled and it was confirmed that Richard would indeed be buried there. I gather the remodeling will take at least 6 months. By the time renovations are complete, it will be close to Lent. Easter is April 5 next year, so my guess is that Leicester is looking at dates in April, or possibly May.
