3D Build of Middleham You Can Walk Through
3D Build of Middleham You Can Walk Through

In the
course of developing a fantasy novel featuring Richard, I've had to build
Middleham (the inner and outer courtyards) in Minecraft so I can walk around the
duke's domain in 3D and see where things are.
I thought to
share the file here, so anyone with access to Minecraft can download the world
and use as they will. You can destroy things and rebuild, too. If you actually
game with it, let me know how that works out for you? I tried not to build anything
with monster-egg blocks, but I may have missed something, and I've never actually
played the game I only use the program in build mode to create locations/settings
for books.
Minecraft's
building capabilities aren't nearly as elegant as Lost In Castles', but it gets
the job done. I used the English Heritage Middleham Castle tour guide and the
Lost In Castles lecture/layout to reconstruct as best I can. You build
everything in the program with square blocks, so I've had to force spiral
staircases to conform to squares, which is terribly awkward. I know things are
wrong, but the ruins are a shambles and some things I've had to guess at. (The
location to the entrance to the solar, for example).
You can get
lost in Middleham -- especially in the outer courtyard as it's crowded and
maze-like. I hope you will.
Anyone can
download the .zip file from here:
https://copy.com/DMt0tXDogCAq
Please feel free to share the link, and please let
me know if the download doesn't work it's the first time I've used copy.com
for anything, and anyone with the URL is supposed to be able to download the
file.
I hope you
have as much fun exploring it as I had building it.

I've downloaded and unzipped the Middleham file, but what do I do from there? "Open" just opens the file, but there's no .exe file, so I can't do anything.Sorry to be such a technophobe or whatever the term is for someone who's technologically challenged.Carol

If someone you know has the game, they or you can do the following to place the file in the correct Minecraft folder, and then open the "world" through Minecraft itself.1. Unzip the Middleham folder and place the unzipped folder on your desktop. 2. Click on <The Windows Key> + R to access the Run window.3. Type in "%appdata%" without the quotes and press <Enter>.4. The Appdata/Roaming folder will display. Open the ".minecraft" folder (note the period before minecraft). 5. Open the "Saves" folder inside of the ".minecraft" folder. 6. Copy the Middleham folder into the "Save" folder. (Be sure to place the entire folder in there, and not just the file contents. Each "world" in Minecraft has its own folder within the Save directory. 7. Close the Roaming folder and start Minecraft. You'll be able to access and walk/fly around in the Middleham2 world when you start the game and follow the prompts. For instructions on how to move around a Minecraft world, Google for "Minecraft commands". They're short and easy. For more information on getting Minecraft, please visit minecraft.net. (Obligatory disclaimer: I am not affiliated with them; I just use their program to create certain locations/settings I'm messing with for my books.) Minecraft Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens. I'll see if my grandson is interested in downloading the game (and opening the Middleham file). If he is, I'll follow your directions. If not, I'll just delete the file.Carol

My grandson is 7 and he plays Minecraft all the time. I think grandsons can be very useful about these matters.Jess From: justcarol67@... []Sent: 29/07/2014 03:48To: Subject: Re: 3D Build of Middleham You Can Walk Through

This sounds fantastic, my 10 year old son would be fascinated, but I'll need him to help me download it..Nico On Tuesday, 29 July 2014, 9:53, "Janjovian janjovian@... []" <> wrote:
