Louis?

According to the new Radio Times in the UK the marvellous Andrew Scott [Moriarty in Sherlock] is playing Louis XI "alongside Benedict Cumberbatch's Richard III" in their new Hollow Crown series.
Now I'm sorry Andrew, BBC and Radio Times, but I have no idea how many times I have read and seen Shakespeare's play, but I have never, ever seen Louis XI, or even heard any reference to the French king.
Of course he does appear in the Henry VI trilogy, but never "alongside Richard III".
The Beeb is doing the Henry trilogy in two parts, plus Richard III, in their new Wars of the Roses series.
So once more the public will get the traditional view of Richard spectacularly shoved at them with no reference to the real man. Benedict Cumberbatch's comments about Alan Turing, the man who broke the Enigma code and virtually invented computers, and the lack of detail about the man's private life in his new film, make me doubt we will see anything of the real Richard in his interviews once the film comes out.
Much as I love the language and poetry in Shakespeare's play I often feel like doing a 1984 Ministry of Truth and destroying all copies of it entirely, airbrushing it out of existence!

Shakespeare wasn't concerned with fact, so I suppose the Beeb thinks it's OK behave the same way towards him. Handsome is as handsome does. From: mailto: Sent: Saturday, October 18, 2014 9:51 AM To: Subject: Louis?
