It looks as if the Leicester archaeologists are capitalizing on finding Richard in a new way. Now they're looking for Harold Godwinson to see if he survived the Battle of Hastings and lived on as a hermit despite the depiction of his cruel death in the Bayeaux tapestry. (Link below.)

Wow, and how are they going to establish The skeleton they might find represents Harold's mortal remains beyond any reasonable doubt as in The case OF Richard's ones? Maybe Hicks has tracked down Harold's mother's matrilineal line down to our present days? :-) Just kidding, of course, every serious historical and archeological research is welcome, but this one does not seem to be very well substantiated if I have to judge it on the ground of the little that the article reveals. Thanks for posting it. Mac

At the risk of spoiling a good story, this (at the moment) has nothing to do with the Leicester archaeologists, but is a GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) study carried out by the company that did a similar survey in the car park in 2011 at the behest of Philippa Langley .... and found "a few drains and some manhole covers" (Mike Pitts, Digging for Richard III).
As with a lot of the gizmos and science brought to the fore by the search for Richard, you get the feeling that within a few years or ten, all this will be so much more advanced and sophisticated, and the hunt for Harold, Alfred, Henry I, Stephen, the Princes in the Tower, Uncle Tom Cobley and all, can begin in earnest and could become the new national sport!

Jan here. You need to know where the drains & so forth are so as not to annoy the neighbours near your trenches. Turi King said as much in a lecture of hers that I attended.

Well, there was a tv programme last year in which Tony Robinson stood on a roundabout and said that was where Harold was buried. Perhaps he is this quests' Phillippa? He'll do anything after all to get his face on tv!

I have seen what is reputed to be Harold's grave, at Waltham Abbey, which is not that far from here, about an hours drive from here, I believe there is a plaque marking the spot.
It will be interesting to see what they find.

Sorry all that I have been incommunicado for the last few weeks, due to Yahoo doing whatever it is they do, I received no postings for over a month. They decided to put everything from the forum into my "spam" file.
Unfortunately, on my phone and Kindle, which I usually chat to you all on, there is no "spam" file. It is only available on my laptop.
There are "junk" files, with nothing in them, but nothing else.
Anyway, all sorted now, and I have over 300 messages to read!
Another forum I write on calls this "condimenting" or in other words "ketching up."
Just to say, I have really missed you all.

Have you tried just reading and responding to the posts from the forum site, Jess? I do that all the time--saves formatting problems, spam problems, and deleting old messages. Just a thought.

Yes, I have now. I was still getting individual mail, so it took me a while to realise that you hadn't all just gone quiet.
Unfortunately, I then became somewhat unwell with an ear infection so it took me a while to sort everything out.
It is good to be back, I can tell you.
