Wikipedia (obligatory derisive snort) has him being born circa 1400 and dying in battle at Bosworth. As this would make him eighty-five years of age, I suspect we can safely assume that there are two John Kendals here -- perhaps one being the son of the other?

Re: So what about this John Kendal fellow?
He looks pretty good at 80 on
the coin doesn't he? This is a lovely example of where something takes on a life
of its own on the web after one person makes an assumption. I meet it a lot -
it's amazing how many people die at 150!! Can't help you with the real birth
date though.
Another one who is muddled a lot
by fiction is Tom Parr, Richard's squire who was killed at Barnet. Novels
usually have him as a teenager about Richard's age, but he was actually 28 when
he died. H

Re: So what about this John Kendal fellow?
There are possibly several John Kendals mixed up here.
The medal actually shows the John Kendal who belonged to the Knights of St John. He was first Turcopolier of Rhodes and later Prior of the Knights in England. There is a link with Richard, though, because he was appointed by Richard as one of his orators at the papal court, and he later supported Perkin Warbeck.
I think the John Kendal who was clerk of the works to Edward IV was probably a different person again because Richard's secretary John Kendal had been his secretary when he was Duke of Gloucester.
Don't you just love Wikipedia?
Same name, must be same person.... obviously.
