Richard and the psychic

At Bosworth my friend and I bought some more books, and hers, to her
horror when she got it home (not having perused it fully before
buying) turned out to be a record of a series of psychic clairvoyant
sessions purporting to contact Richard, Edward IV, Anne Neville and
even Henry VI. I confess to having a chuckle over it. Naturally the
obvious questions were asked - did you kill the Princes, how did you
die, did you poison Anne and so on. Apparently he signed a warrant
that he didn't intend to kill the boys but was misinterpreted by
other shadowy church figures and powers behind the throne and they
were murdered in Richard's reign. He was literally stabbed in the
back, he didn't kill Henry VI or Anne, and he really enjoyed the R3
Society function which he and Edward attended....I don't know if
anyone else here has encountered this astonishing piece of work and
has a view on it. I am actually a believer (mostly) in psychics
since I house share with one and she's rather good, but she says one
cannot summon up people like Richard, only those who want to contact
us for personal reasons. This is got round by the clairvyant's claim
that Richard is deeply attached to the client and even goes on
holiday to Yorkshire with him (very reassuring, I am sure). She's
away just now but I intend to get her "professional" views on the
book on her return. I did, however, think it might be something
others here might have come across, have a view on or even tried
themselves.

I've got this book too. Couldn't help it when the shop assistant in
York said the author (a nice vicar) comes in from time to time & is
really sweet.

I too found it a chuckle - particularly George being very quiet.
also "Katherine who?"

I also suspected the idea that Richard was the victim of "the Church"
of his day may have been down to a bit of C of E / Catholic rivalry.

I wouldn't, from personal experience, totally knock the idea of
psychic experiences either (well, there goes any academic street cerd
I never had), but this book ain't got it. But it's a fun read.

I particularly enjoyed that bit too, and George being quiet was
amusing. I noted the odd line to convince that the psychic knows no
history - is that George III then? Edward standing up for Richard
was nice, blaming the church too....I kept wondering if he was
thinking of Morton (shifty blighter).

My friend doesn't want to read it but I said she should as it is
terribly interesting and fun, as you say. The author's naiveté and
enthusiasm was touching.

Hi All,

I'm normally a lurker (always interested and often following up
recommendations or reading suggestions though) and this post caught
my eye.

I read this book and registered it for bookcrossing, I'm not sure
how long a post I'm 'allowed' here so I'll include the link for my
review instead: (http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/1576601/?
title=Richard&author=&category=&isbn=&bcid=&status=0&screenname=daemo
nwolf/book_Secret-History:-The-Truth-About-Richard-III-%26-The-
Princes-Part-I-by-John-Denin...)

It's the only book I think I ever gave 1/10 to.

Floating away again,

Nia

Like you and Marie, I was highly amused. I especially enjoyed
the "Did you really say 'A horse, a horse...' " (As if!) and Richard
smiles and says "Well if you think I would have had the breath for
that you've got another think coming!". I think I nearly wet myself
at that point. I rather enjoyed the psychic's attempts at convincing
us he knew no history - is that Richard V then? And another fave
was Have you ever been to Ireland? Yes on my honeymoon a long time
ago....Ah, Richard says you went there a long time ago and it's to
do with marriage.....like he hadn't just been told that! I certainly
wouldn't give it more than one star either but it was good for a
chuckle, and after a day at the battlefield thinking about his death
it did me good.
