RE: DNA in Edward`s hair : Dont I recall somewhere in a much earlier post, that the very small amount of Edward IV`s hair from his tomb, is too small to determine his DNA? I know this seems like a huge loss....and our one good attempt to answer many questions with the hair...but at least we have Richards DNA and the amazing find of the entire (mostly) body. I guess we can only dream of opening many coffins, and doing modern research on ancient remains. This reminds me of a favorite Shakespeare quote of mine...."We are such stuff as dreams are made on...." Such a beautiful thought.

Paul Trevor Bale
Well I've actually held the sample at the Society of Antiquities, and as
this seems to have been their policy then, I guess a lot of people have
handled it over time, so the sample would be contaminated. I also don't
remember sending any ends, and it is the root that contains the DNA,if I
recall correctly.

Re the SoA sample of EIV's hair - Paul is . According to Anne Sutton & Livia Visser-Fuchs all the samples (it seems there were several taken) were cut from Edward's head rather than pulled away by the roots, and were then washed because they had been lying in the goo at the bottom of the coffin, whereupon so much material washed out of them that they turned from dark brown to very light brown. I actually seem to recall that the SoA sample has been checked fro DNA twice now but there just isn't any there, and as Paul says, if they did find any it would very likely suggest to the unwary that Edward really was the son of Blayborgne and so, miraculously, was Paul's male-line late-15thC ancestor.
