Fees for speaking.

The Friends of my parish church have booked a speaker from the local university to talk about Magna Carta. He has been offered a fee plus expenses but we are not sure what the going rate is for an academic lecturer per hour. If anybody out there has paid/feed a lecturer before & can tell me what's a suitable sum then I would be pleased to hear from her or him.
