Wellesbournes
Wellesbournes

Hi. I hope everyone who celebrated Christmas had a nice time.
I've got a question that I would appreciate any help with.
I read in Kendall that one of the people indicted for treason with
Sir James Tyrell for succouring Edmund de la Pole in 1501 was someone
called Wellesbourne.
I never thought much about this until I read The Career of John de la
Pole by Wendy Moorhen in the Festschrift of 2003. This says of the
Stafford brothers'rebellion that:
'They were supported … by Giles and Christopher Wellesbourne who were
related to the Wellesbournes of West Hanney, close to the duke of
Suffolk's manor of Philbertis and Lincoln's own Thames Valley
estates.'
Does anyone know if the Wellesbourne associated with Tyrell was
related to these other Yorkist-sympathising Wellesbournes? Also was
he executed along with Tyrell?
I've always assumed that Henry was paranoid and overreacted to Tyrell
showing hospitality to Edmund. Or was he really involved in some
sort of Yorkist conspiracy in favour of the de la Poles?
Thanks in advance.
Joanne
