Re: [Richard III Society Forum]January 2, 1492

Hi all - today is January 2, and on this day in 1492, the Catholic Kings
entered Granada as victors of the Granadine war; Boabdil el Chico, last
Moorish king of Granada, turned over the key to the city. Not long
afterward, he and his family, including mama Aixa, who risked a great
deal for his sake, will be riding over the Sierra on their way to the
coast. Boabdil will pause at a spot, look at the towers of the
Alhambra, and burst into tears. Aixa will say: "That's right. Weep
like a woman for what you couldn't defend as a man." This spot, called
"The Last Sigh of the Moor", is currently being turned into a resort,
which I think is rather nasty.
Edward Woodville took part in some the Granadine war. According to
Washington Irving, he lost a couple of teeth during the battle and
Fernando comforted him by saying something to the effect that beauty
wasn't everything.

Interesting question:
I was going to say that in every case, the wife was older than the husband,
except that I don't think Joanna of Navarre qualifies.
Another answer I thought of was that the husbands and wives were born
in different countries (Edward IV having been born in Rouen), but that
probably doesn't apply to Charles and Camilla, unless Camilla was
born abroad.
Does it have something to do with children from a previous marriage?

You are getting the idea but that is not the complete answer!
