As has already been mentioned, the January scene from Tres Riches Heures du Duc du Berry, painted c. 1405, shows a woven or plaited rush matting covering the floor under the Duc de Berry's feasting table:

Well, now we have another bit of evidence for the existence of rush matting, this in the form of a picture painted round about a decade and a half earlier, in a manuscript of Le Roman de la Rose, where rush matting makes an appearance:
