This is Holocaust Remembrance Day today.
Watching the tv coverage of the ceremony from Auschwitz with the likes
of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, the King of the Belgians,
Presidents from Greece and France and even a Grand Duke, of Luxembourg,
paying tribute to the losses we all as human beings suffered during
that awful time, reduced me to tears. Again the ceremony from
Westminster Hall attended by Queen Elizabeth and all politicians of all
parties, with tributes from so many different people from all walks of
life, music from gypsy as well as Jewish musicians, actors,
footballers, sportsmen, writers, homosexuals, disabled, so many,
reminding us of the tragedy we as human beings dare not ever forget,
this again has reduced me to tears.
I hope the reminder has the same effect on everybody who stops to
reflect on what crimes can be committed in the names of hate and
intolerance.
