The Gunpowder Plot involved a Catesby or two, did it not? I think I read somewhere that they were related to Richard's man.

They were indeed, but I'm not sure how. The Catesby (Robert?) of
Gunpowder
Plot fame was a member of the Warwickshire branch of the family.
According
to Charles Ross, William Catesby had been a Lancastrian and a member
of
Henry VI's court. The Catesbys were also related to the
Throckmortons and
Shakespeare's mother, Mary Arden. The Throckmortons were staunch
Catholics, and still are.
