Can you help? Yorkist genealogy and French military history
Can you help? Yorkist genealogy and French military history

As we all know, our King's nephew, Richard de la Pole, was killed at
the battle of Pavia in 1525. However, he seems to have had a daughter
who had six children of her own.
Her second son, Pierre de Brenieu, was killed at the battle of St.
Denis.
Her third son, Claude, was killed at the battle d'Ivry.
What years did these take place in? Their parents married in 1539 so
I would suggest that the battles took place during Elizabeth's reign,
albeit a different country - France, I would imagine.

Are these battles too late?
There was a Battle of St Denis in France as part of the Wars of
Religion on the 11 November 1567. I wonder which side Pierre fought on
Also there was a Battle d'Ivry on the 14 March 1590.
I was interested to find that Richard de la Pole had a daughter. Do
you know anything more about her? I gather Richard didn't marry. I
quite like the idea that Geoffrey Chaucer may have descendants. (One
of my pet peeves is when people say someone's family died out and
they really only mean the male legitimate line).

Perfect - I did say the Elizabethan era!
I first heard about this from another prominent poster. Marguerite
was married in 1539, died in about 1599 and her husband died in 1566.
French sources claim that she was young Richard's daughter, he was in
exile in France and Italy for most of his adult life and she is the
right age (fourteen or more) to marry when she did.
I have her six children and some grandchildren documented from
another Forum and can e-mail them if you have PowerPoint.
Furthermore, one poster in another place seems to be descended from
her fifth child.
On the subject of "extinct" lines, one Piers Compton claimed that
Margaret of Salisbury's quintet all died without issue, despite a
whole volume of Ruvigny being devoted to her line. At the last count,
her grandchildren number 32.
Likewise, Henry VIII's illegitimate line flourishes to the point of
including the Devereux Earls of Essex and possibly Lord Nelson,
Charles Darwin, Vita Sackville-West, Sabine Baring-Gould, Ralph
Vaughan-Williams, P.G.Wodehouse, Lady Antonia Fraser and the late
Queen Mother.
I share your views about supposedly extinct lines.

Thank you about the offer but I'm not sure whether I have PowerPoint or not. I know that sounds rather silly to say that. How does one know?

Oh yes!

Yes I do have MS Office Suite, Word so it would be nice to have the parts about Richard de la Pole's descendants. (Though my computer has been very temperamental in recent times so I'm not sure how it will go)

I have seen a few times writers stating that Chaucer's descendants died out so they should check their facts shouldn't they? Maybe they keep copying each other.
I heard the same things said about others for example the de Medicis and also a much later figure in Oliver Cromwell, also quite untrue!
If this is getting too far from our King, didn't he have a copy of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales among his library?
