Ah, how I wish I could be there this summer-too far for me, I fear, here in
Alabama USA. Still, I will treasure the time I did visit-in 1988- since,
imagination or no, I felt very close to Richard there.
I felt the same way about the film Eileen-but was in heaven, nonetheless,
to walk the land and picture the battle. I am no scholar, just someone with
an abiding interest who has read as much as I could find over the years
about Richard. Like others, I started out with Josephine Tey's book-which
made me ask a lot of questions.
I have so enjoyed reading the posts on this forum, to share, if vicariously,
the common interest-passion?-the disagreements and the debate. All is
fascinating, all interesting.
Someday, I want to visit Middleham. Surely, that is where Richard was
happiest, and maybe that is where his heart still lies.
Thanks, y'all! Lark

Ihave been once already and enjoyed it so much -I thought it was done
extremely well - I
was very moved to see Richards white boar banner flying on top of the hill
and to think I
might be near the place where he had died along with many good men that day
defending
their king and country. I do intend to go again but think I shall wait
until they have
decided if they have in fact the correct place. Didnt like the film they
were showing in the
little cinema though- Lawrence Oliver's Richard lll - I thought there would
be some visitors
to the battlefield who would think was the way it really happened. Lets face
it, there are
still many many people out there who equate Richard lll with someone who
died crying out
a horse, a horse my kingdom for a horse - yuk.

I have
received my capy of the Bullettin today with the booking form. I'd like so
much to go to
Bosworth this summer (520 years, folks) but the little problem is the number
of miles from
Italy to the field...

Oh Lark you are just like me - it started off for me too with Daughter of Time a very long
time ago - I was v pleased when I discovered the forum but I was a bit nervous because
some of these people are soooooo clever (you can ask anything and there is always
someone out there who can give you an answer!)and like you im not a scholar but im so
glad I did join because I really enjoy it - and anyway you dont need to be an Einstein to
know when a tragic miscarriage of justice has taken place - what do you think Richard
would think if he could see the passion he can arouse in people & from all over the world
too after over 500 years- I think (as they say here in South London) he would be 'well
pleased'.
p.s. I dont think Henry Tudor has a fan club!!
best wishes Eileen

Thanks so much Eileen! I think the idea that such an injustice as that which
has been perpetrated on the memory of 'a good and great man' as Richard by
those who re-wrote history to suit the victor-like Will Shakespeare-that
kind of calumny draws together those who want the record corrected. That
such lies should be told and accepted as truth through the centuries should
make fair minded people step forward. How heart warming it is to know that
there are so many of us that do care. I think Richard would be well
pleased-and quite astounded! Bless him!!
Thanks! Lark

I thin he would be somewhat bemused by all the fuss, unless it ended
in people joining his call to arms. I suspect a lot would have to
consult their diaries first, then find excuses. But I suspect, like
me, you'd just drop everything with the words "Where and when do you
want me" escaping your lips!
