Tompsett is one of my usual sources. This entry is confusing because it attributes all of Richard's real or putative children to his marriage. I have not heard of Hawes before and numbers 2-4 are illegitimate, 4 not yet being proven to exist.
When my computer is back to full speed, I mean to investigate number 3 (Katherine) further, including offline sources because Tompsett suggests that she had a line. I have just seen on the site Charles Somerset, Earl of Worcester married to her daughter i.e. Richard's granddaughter.
Very interesting.

I found this genealogy site and it mentioned a possible son of Richard's named Stephen Hawes. Anyone know anything about him?

Really? Richard had another illegitimate son I didn't know of? I knew of Katherine and of John of Gloucester. I've never heard of Richard Stonemason. Can anyone explain me better this situation? Thanks

However the dates don't work out. Tompsett has Katherine marrying the
Earl of Huntingdon in 1484 and their child born eight years earlier.
Besides Richard would have been only 24 when his "grandchild" was born.
I'm afraid that Elizabeth Herbert is actually the Earl of Huntingdon's
daughter from an earlier marriage.
Wasn't Stephen Hawes a poet?

We've heard on another forum that Paul Trevor Bale is
uninjured. Like many, I am appalled, angered...words
fail me. I am holding the affected and their families
and all who must come to terms with this attack in my
thoughts and prayers.

Thank you Laura for those words.
Typical of us English the response of Londoners has been very much
like the Blitz must have been - the bastards will NOT succeed!
The body count is 37 so far, plus over 300 wounded.
Last night I was watching a movie that ended with the following words
which for some reason I copied down.
"It's a cash and carry world, pay as you go.
Sometimes you only have to pay a little; mostly it's a lot; once in a
while it's all you have."
For 37 people this evening it was all.
We beat the Nazis, and these terrorists are as bad as they were.
Watch out!
Us Londoners will make sure those who did this to us also pay in full.

We care about all who are in peril in London, of
course, and are in awe of your resilience.
One of our own is in London right now -- Pam Butler,
our American Branch membership chair. Has anyone heard
from her today? I know it's statistically unlikely
that she was caught at one of the bomb sites, but I
would feel better knowing that she is safe.

Hi, Laura, Paul, and Everyone,
This is my first chance to tell you I'm OK. I left my Gatwick-area hotel
"this
morning," i.e., July 7 at 7:30 am GMT and left from the North Terminal on
American
Airlines. I did not hear of the bombings until our flight landed in Dallas
at 2:30 pm
CST, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport was experiencing some turbulence of
its
own following an 11 am severe thunderstorm, delaying my flight for three
hours.
However, that's merely inconvenience, and nothing like the tragedy which hit
London. I've been in Cornwall this past week, but prior to that, I was
using the
buses and the Tube for a couple of days and could have been a victim.
More soon,
LML,
Pam

Re: [Richard III Society Forum] Possible child of Richard?

I've never heard of a Stephen Hawes being suggested as a child of
Richard, but it occurs to me that Hawes is not a million miles away
from Haute. A lady with that surname has been suggested as the mother
of John and/or Katherine.
I've seen various articles about the stonemason, but again, I don't
think the dates work, if he was born in 1469. He is supposed to have
seen Richard on the eve of Bosworth. I can't remember whether he is
suppposed to have gone to Richard, or Richard came to him but I
question whether a king preparing to fight off an invasion would have
time or opportunity to go roaming about the counteryside. I find this
tale quite intriguing, and it would be really interesting to know
where it originated. I first came across it some years ago in an
article by Byron Rogers in the "Telegraph".
