Evening All: Got out my big book on heraldry by Fox-Davies and
looked up "cats" and found on page 136 the following:" . . . the
panther was one of the badges of Henry VI---silver, spotted with
various colors of flame issuing from its mouth(see panther's breath).
No doubt this Royal badge is the origin of the supporters of the Duke
of Beaufort." I suspect then that's dearest Margaret Beaufort's
family, eh? So then perhaps the cat Tib making off with the rosebush
under his(Henry VII?)arm refers to what----Richard's crown found in
the thornbush or Elizabeth of York?
Also, cats, wild cats or catamounts are commonly found in
Scottish heraldry and described as looking like large alley cats.
Hmmmmn, the possibilites are many aren't they?
