As you may have read so far, he was descended from Anne of Exeter, his male line came from Reyne near Braintree and were sheriffs of Essex and Herts, he was executed in 1649 as a supporter of the late King. Last month, I discovered that he was actually captured at the siege of Colchester.

Looking at a map of the town, there are several small roads leading off Maldon Road, largely named after military or political leaders such as: Beaconsfield, Salisbury, Ireton, Constantine, St. Helena, Athelstan and Capel.

The spelling is different but I think the context points to the man and not the village.
