Richard's Boar

Does anyone know how it came to be that Richard chose the boar for his
badge?

Hello,
I'm not sure thatb he did choose it. It may have been the heraldic symbol of the dukedom of Gloucester which became his when his brother gave him the title. Is there any evidence that he used the White Boar before he became duke?

I think it came from the Roman name for York - Eboracum
