The Catesby family
The Catesby family

When my computer behaves itself, I have noticed that they are somewhere on Castelli and intend to trace the connection between William and Robert.

I tried but that page doesn't work, nor does Tompsett have them on.

Yesterday, I began to re-read Lady Antonia Fraser's book on the
Plotters. It gives Sir William as Robert's ANCESTOR by six generations,
not a distant cousin.
Furthermore, the prologue discusses the possible successors to
Elizabeth and mentions on page six the following families:
Huntingdon (Hastings)
Barrington
Rutland (Manners)
Stafford
Essex (Devereaux)
All of this in a book published nine years ago - that passage must have
meant nothing when I first read it. If I get any further, I shall PP
the line and place it on this forum as a Document.

..... and now I have consulted the DNB which was surprisingly
informative about the genealogy. I aim to complete and post the file
tonight.

It is done and posted.
Incidentally, both of Robin's children died without issue, although
some say his younger son married Thomas Percy's daughter.
There was a naturalist named Mark Catesby in the 18th century. Desce
nded from our William? I don't know but he was a family member.

A little more information from a website: The grandfather was
apparently another Sir William, married to a Spencer, and Robin seems
to have had three siblings: William, Anne (Browne) and Elizabeth.
I have written to Dr. Christine Carpenter, who wrote the New DNB
article to complete the "missing links" and shall endeavour to borrow
her book on C15 Warwickshire, before I update the File.
