in google book search i found
The Chronicles of the White Rose of York
it is in public domain, meaning you can read it on line.
you can also email yourself pages of interest by right clicking your
mouse and choosing the appropriate link.

to get to this book pop
The Chronicles of the White Rose of York in the main google search
page.

then scroll past all the hits and click search google books.

it is a very interesting read.

one can certainly get a clearer picture edward iv. richard iii sure
took a knocking by the tudor propagandists, edward iv should have
been their villian, but then it appears that henry vii was very much
alike in personality/arrogance to edward iv.

you can use the search in this book feature to chase down references
to people of interest with regards to your research. this book is one
of the secondary sources the richard iii society has in it's library.

some pages of the The Chronicles of the White Rose of York are
restricted, while others say they are restricted, but if you start
reading a page or so before the restricted access page, you can often
get to the page.

if you get a page with a small red X in the upper corner, hit your
refresh the page icon once or twice, and it will usually bring that
image/page to view.

using the search in the book feature searching for people of interest
can also sometimes get you past this roadblock.

anyhow, enjoy
roslyn

Re: [Richard III Society Forum] The Chronicles of the White Rose of

fayre rose
you're both very welcome. i didn't know it was there either until i stumbled upon it in my usual ..one link leads to another fashion..

i am noticing smallish errors..i.e the editor names eleanor talbot's father as thomas. her father was was john.

what i find/found fascinating is is william wyrcester/botoner..a source the editor attributes much of his information to via wyr/cester's chronicles. i did a rootsweb search on botoner..not much there.

the only william botoner there was born mid 1300's with a daughter alice b. circa 1400. she married humphrey lowe. they are the parents of eleanor lowe m. robert de grey son of reynold/reginald de grey m. joan asteley. robert's sibling was edward m. eliz ferrers. their children were john m. eliz woodville and edward m eliz talbot.

the william who was a secretary to john fastolf is supposed to be the son of elizabeth botoner, daughter of thomas botoner. however wm wyrc. is an eyewitness to many significant events during the war of the roses.

it has therefore left me pondering if his mother was a sibling of alice m. humphrey lowe, or if his grandfather (thomas) was a sibling of the william father of alice. wm wyrc was certainly moving in the right circles.

robert grey m. eleanor lowe was the baliff for chesterfield via the earl of salisbury, richard neville m. alice montagu. rich neville was the brother of cecily m. richard of york, father of ed4, ric3 and geo of clarence, etc.

wm. wyrc. also records in detail information regarding ralph gray/grey a grandson of alice neville who was the half sister of richard neville, kingmaker/warwick.

a henry wydesore also styles himself brother to wm. wyrc.
i have yet to do any research on who henry is.
the ancestral info on wm. wyrc. is found on page 191 of the white rose chron.

i do think it could be interesting to track the lineage of wm botoner/wyrcester.
and an off the wall thought, john morton is sometimes credited with being the author of the croyland chronicles continuation. it crossed my mind if the unknown chronicler could be wm. wyr.

i'd have to check the dates of the continuation, and the surmised death date of wm. wyr. which depending upon where you find info is circa 1482 or circa 1490.

if wm. wyrc. does fit in the time period, it would be interesting to do comparision of handwriting style/spelling and perhaps ink composition of wyrc. personal chronicles and the croylands.

willie was well connected to be at some of the events he wrote about.
regards
roslyn

In what way was Alice Neville Warwick's half-sister - was she a bastard daughter of Richard Neville Earl of Salisbury? In Shakespeare's Kings John Julius Norwich mentions a Bastard of Salisbury who was killed in skirmishing before Towton and appears in Henry VI.

oops, my error, alice is a half sister to cecily m. richard of york.

warwick/kingmaker richard is cecily's nephew.

if you goto www.rootsweb.com
search for neville, ralph
spouses: stafford beaufort
and click all 3 fields for descendents, notes, sources
you'll narrow the hits to about 200

ignore sources with WFT, or AFX, you'll find loads of notes from encyclopedias, or accepted credible secondary sources.

okay..i just did a google on the bastard of salisbury..and turned up another public domain book on google book search.
The History of Pontefract, in Yorkshire

i'm not finding "your" bastard of salisbury's identity, and i'm starting to feel buried in choices of research..the pontefract book looks good. enjoy..and sorry for the confusion between the generations.

roslyn
