When I was a museum curator, I used Canada's cultural property export
legislation to acquire a superb collection of about one hundred
pre-electrical lamps. The art gallery that is part of the complex where
I worked also used the legislation to prevent significant pieces and
collections produced by Canadian artists from leaving the country.
Our legislation allows for the issuance of tax receipts to collection
donors. I assume that similar legislation in other countries provides
the same capability.
