A review for the recent Richard III DVD describes 'The Trial of
Richard III' as
"a TV curio from 1984 that seeks to rehabilitate the much-maligned
monarch in a court of law using actual QCs and 'witnesses'. Dull to
the point of distraction, it will have even the most devoted
historian reaching for the remote"
Didn't like it then?:-)

There was a moot court trial of Richard III in the US at about the
same time. The witnesses, in period costume, sat among the modern-
dress court watchers until called to testify, which I enjoyed.
Richard was present, and not hunchbacked or evilly leering.
He was aquitted due to lack of evidence, on the accusation of
murdering his nephews.

We've had a couple of these in relatively recent
times, including two presided over by William
Rehnquist. Once he was acquitted on the "beyond a
reasonable doubt" standard and once on the "more
likely than not standard," which I thought was
especially cool. That one was argued before three of
our Supreme Court justices -- Rehnquist, Ginsberg, and
Breyer.
