2006 Bulletin

How many of you have read this yet?

I particularly enjoyed "Alive and well in Canada", the story of
Richard's mitochondrial DNA, and "Genealogical Conundrums".

The first also explains that a pure female is very useful for mtDNA
testing and a pure male line is quite useful for the Y-chromosome.
Mixed lines are not.

The second proves the descent of four of Henry VIII's wives from Edward
I through the Lancastrian line. Can anyone complete the set (numbers4
and 6)?

Without doublechecking the genealogies, I believe it's Catherine of
Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymore, and Katherine Howard.

Yes, that's correct. Last night I investigated Catherine Parr whose
great-grandmother, Alice Neville, was Cicely's sister and therefore of
Beaufort descent. I may need to confirm the dates and relationships in
the library but: five down, one to go. Tompsett may be of use for Anne
of Cleves.

this gedcom has henry's wives and mistresses.
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=willperf&id=I032459
the owner delineates the spouses, but not the lovers.
click on any person and then click the pedigree link. click display in text format and you should be able to find the ancestral route to e1 fairly fast by scrolling down the page.

Please note that my references to descent from "Edward I" actually
meant "Henry III" as the Dukes of Lancaster were descended from
Edward's brother, Edmund Crouchback.

How about a race to "find" Anne of Cleves? Results must be verifiable
and well-presented. I have an idea as to her descent!

i supplied you with a rootsweb ancestry for the wives of h8, however, if you would like one that i know IS verified, then try leo van de pas genealogics.

leo is a real stickler for verification..and REAL names vs anglosised names.
he has anne of cleves aka anna von kleef's genealogy back to eleanor of aquitaine and beyond.

you will also find the genealogy of h8's other wifes as far back as leo has them verified. quite simply if it isn't verifiable, it doesn't make it into leo's dbase. he is a very serious medieval genealogical researcher.

Thanks, roslyn, this is reliable and dynamic, the way I like
genealogy. I have traced her back through the French Kings to our
Henry II. Could there be a simpler link, I wonder?

Completed!

Anne of Cleves was descended from our Henry II and, halfway down,
from John II of France. He was also an ancestor, through Catherine de
Valois, of Henry VIII who was, at least twice
Anne's cousin but not closer than 6/7 generations.

Now I only need some time to transcribe my notes.

I quite agree though there are a few dodgy dates particularly concerning
our era but far better than many of the other online genealogy's that are
out there.
