Tewksbury Abbey

I was fortunate enough to be on an American Branch tour in the
early 1990's and we all got to go down into the crypt to see the bones
of Clarence and Isobel. They were in a glass case that was imbedded
in the wall. I recall it being lighted! Maybe that is "enhanced
memory".
As I recall, our wonderful tour leader, Linda Treybig, made
arrangements in advance for us to have a docent take us around the
abbey. He was quite helpful. We saw the famous door as well. The
crypt was small and only 2 or 3 of us could fit in there at one time.
At that time there was no question the bones were of Clarence and
Isobel.
It sounds to me that the Abbey must be suffering from lack of funds
or something like that if they don't have enough staff to take
visitors around. I count myself lucky to have visited the crypt and to
have paid my respects to Clarence and Isobel.
