the following are notes i have in my dbase regarding elizabeth lambert aka jane shore.
Dau. of a wealthy London mercer named Lambert, Elizabeth married William Shore, a goldsmith. In about 1470, she became mistress of Edward IV, and in 1476 had her marriage annuled on the grounds of William's impotence. Her beauty and wit were famous, and, in the words of Sir Thomas More, she influenced Edward, 'to many a man's comfort and relief'. After Edward's death in 1483 she became mistress of Thomas Grey, 4th marquis of Dorset, then of William, Lord Hastings. Richard III executed Hastings in June 1483, and had Elizabeth accused of sorcery. She was imprisoned in the Tower of London and made to do public penance as a harlot, walking through London in her kirtle carrying a lighted taper. She was freed when Thomas Lynon, a royal official, fell in love with her. She later died in poverty. [The Plantagenet Encyclopedia, p. 184] 1
Jane is thought to have been about 11 years old when she
Married 1 William SHORE b: ABT 1440 in of London,Middlesex,England
Relationship 2 Edward IV of York PLANTAGENET King of England b: 28 Apr 1441/1442 in Rouen,France
Relationship 3 Thomas GREY 2nd Marquess of Dorset b: 22 Jun 1477 in of Bashall, Yorkshire, England
Relationship 4 William HASTINGS 1st Lord Hastings b: ABT 1431/1432 in Yorkshire,England
Marriage 5 Thomas LYMAN/LYNON/LYNOM b: ABT 1460 in England
Shore, Jane, or Elizabeth Shore, d. 1527?, mistress of Edward IV of England. The wife of William Shore, a goldsmith, she became c.1470 mistress to Edward IV and exerted a great influence over the king. After Edward's death (1483) she became the mistress of Thomas Grey, 1st marquess of Dorset, and then of Lord Hastings. Probably only out of political motives, she was accused of sorcery (1483) by Richard III, placed in the Tower of London, and later forced to do public penance as a harlot. Her great beauty attracted the king's solicitor, Thomas Lynon, but their proposed marriage failed to come about, and Jane died in poverty. Her life was the subject of Nicholas Rowe's Tragedy of Jane Shore (1714).
wikipedia says...
Jane Shore (c. 1445 - c. 1527) was one of the many mistresses of King Edward IV, the first of the three whom he described respectively as the merriest, the wiliest, and the holiest harlots in his realm. A petite woman of round face and fair complexion, she was more captivating by her wit and conversation than by her beauty, yet she was comely, too. Thomas More, writing when she was still alive, but old, lean, and withered, declared that even then an attentive observer might have discerned in her shriveled countenance some traces of its lost charms.
She was born in London, the daughter of a prosperous merchant named John Lambert and his wife Amy, daughter of a well-off grocer named Robert Marshall. She was christened 'Elizabeth' and took up the name 'Jane' later on, for unknown reasons. (Possibly to avoid confusion with Elizabeth Woodville).
Jane married William Shore who was impotent, their marriage was eventually annulled on that ground in 1476.
She probably became mistress of the king in late 1475 or 1476. Edward did not discard her as he did many of his mistresses, and their relationship lasted until Edward's death in 1483. Afterwards she was mistress of the queen's oldest son Thomas Grey, 1st Marquess of Dorset, and of William Hastings, 1st Baron Hastings, who was convicted of treason and executed in the Tower of London on 18 June 1483. (The precise order of these relationships is not certain.)
Jane was required to do an open penance at Paul's Cross for her promiscuous behavior, though this may have been motivated by suspicion she had harbored Dorset when he was a fugitive. She accordingly went in her kirtle through the streets one Sunday with a taper in her hand, attracting a lot of male attention all along the way.
While she was in prison for her misconduct, she so captivated the King's Solicitor, Thomas Lynom, that he actually entered into a contract of marriage with her. This we know from a letter of King Richard to his chancellor on the occasion, pardoning Jane so she could be released from prison (into her father's custody) but asking the chancellor to dissuade Lynom from the match, if possible. Nevertheless, they were married and had one daughter. Although Lynom lost his position as King's Solicitor when Henry VII defeated Richard III, he was able to stay as a mid-level bureaucrat in the new reign.

It surprises me that "Jane" Shore was about 10 years older than Edward, because somehow I had visualised her as being his junior. However, it would fit in nicely with his apparent preference for older women.
I was under the impression that her marriage to Lynom had been proved by references in her father's (?) will, and that she is buried at Hinxworth Hertfordshire. Can't recall the exact reference, but I suspect somewhere in the annals of the Ricardian.

jane was anywhere from 2-3 years to almost a decade younger than e4. her guestimated year of birth is somewhere between 1445 to 1450.
she was thought to be about 11 years old when she married william shore, who was born in 1440.
however, jane was significantly older than thomas de grey, e4's stepson. his birth is circa 1460.
hastings was quite likely significantly older than jane. his father leonard is thought to have been born circa 1400. therefore, hastings birth could be as early as 1420.
lynom is thought to have been born circa 1460, ergo it is jane who appears to be the person who had a younger/older penchant for lovers.
additionally, given that sources state she was e4's concubine until his death, it would mean jane was a "fast" mover to have passed from the arms of e4 to dorset and on to hastings from april to june of 1483.
i have to wonder if people's "dirty minds" committed shore to a relationship of more than friend with dorset, and possibly hastings during this short time frame.
or was e4 and his court very open and it was share and share alike among the debauched. this concept would not surprise me, as the vatican was becoming quite reknown for its papal "affairs" during the same era.

A few years ago, I wrote a small article about Hastings for the LMB website. My research placed Hastings' birth year as about 1431: according to the Peerage, papa Leonard died in 1455, when Hastings was noted as being about 24 years old (which places him in his early fifties in 1483).
