I believe we had this discussion a couple of years ago and it was
Paul who brought it to our attention. I believe the suggestion that
Louis has E IV poisoned occurred in one of Dumas' novels - maybe
the "Three Musketeers" It has been a while since we talked about this.
Anyway it was an aside in the novel. However in light of Hasting's
subsequent execution, it gave us pause...
The poison, as I recall, was placed in a gift of wine from France.

fayre rose
thank you again.
however, i do find that the poison being placed in a gift of wine story to be a tad on twisted fairy tale side, because:

edward had just been "betrayed" by the king with regard to promise of marriage between of e of y and his son. ergo, there would have been suspicion with regards to a single flask of wine, or even a barrel of wine.

these people used food tasters to ensure the king or master of the home did not become poisoned, by not only spoiled food, or by intentional poisoning. king louis's wine would have been tested, well before the king and court had access to it.

moreover as e4 was a partying kind of dude, he would have shared a barrel of wine with his buddies...therefore, more people would have sickened and/or died. this i believe would have been reported by chroniclers/historians.

however, i do believe it could be possible for someone close to the king to slip him a "mickey". such a theory would require knowing who was close to the king. who had opportunity and motive.

of any of the people of that era, who could seriously want to destablise the kingdom, to me it would have been margaret beaufort, mother of h7.

h6, according to holinshed had prophecised h7 would rule after him. therefore, i'd be looking for her agents/associates to have been at a "party" with the king within days prior to his becoming terminally ill.

aside from margaret's ambition for her son, the need for a tudor cover-up with regard to the death of a king by deceit/devious means makes her the most viable candidate to have been behind e4's death, if caused by poisoning.

margaret beaufort was inlaw related to the anjou/valois family. h7's grandmother catherine was the sister of charles, the father of louis xi aka the spider king.

king louis was related to margaret d'anjou. his mother was marie d'anjou. she was margaret anjou's grandfather rene's sister. rene d'anjou's court phsycian was the maternal grandfather of nostradamus. these people knew their chemicals aka herbal concoctions. a small vial of something quite deadly could easily be slipped into the country and into someone's drink.

margaret beaufort and margaret d'anjou were sister inlaws by the virtue of the half blood relationship of their husbands. edmund tudor and h6.

it is interesting to note, that louis xi died in august of 1483. does anyone know of what the reported cause of death for him was? he was only 60 years old. old age is a possibility, not necessarily likely. his wife, margaret the dau of james i of scotland died a few months later in dec. 1483.

e4's other dau, cecily had been betrothed to one of the scottish princes before she married lord welles, but i do "smell" some retribution coming from the english towards louis and his wife margaret because of the broken betrothals. but, i'd have to know the reported cause of death before a could firmly surmise this theory.

hastings, to me ranks low on the list of people who would/could have wanted e4 dead.

but, i can see a tudor cover up of the events surrounding e4's death, especially if margaret beaufort could be safely indicated.
