That's my evening paper!
I missed it last night because there are some light-fingered people
around here and my delivery had gone by a quarter to seven. Fascinating
story.
Anyway, did you know I have a famous stalker?
On BBC1's "Who do you think you are?", Barbara Windsor visited the
Suffolk-Essex border town of Bures (Mid-Anglia Group went three or four
years ago) then Suffolk Record Office (Bury St. Edmunds Office, where I
was tracing Catesbys in December).
As you will recall, Barbara Windsor was in "Carry On, Henry", a
biography of Richard's great-nephew Henry VIII; her character being
Bettina, daughter of the Earl of Bristol.

I remember that movie well. I saw it at a cinema in Sloan Square when I
visited London in 1971. I believe that, when discussing the upcoming
palace dance, she said to Sid James (Henry), "I do so love royal balls",
at which Sid did one of his famous 'takes'.

The 'Carry On' movies were so bad they were good.

How ironic. I've just been watching part of a 2 DVD set of the
TV series "Carry On Laughing" and really had to groan at the jokes
in "Orgy and Bess","Baron Outlook" & "One In the Eye for Harold" but
really liked Lord Peter Flimsy. Still have the second disc to watch
which has more Lord Peter Flimsy, two takes on King Arthur
and "Upstairs, Downstairs".
My late night viewing has been occupied by the 6 part series on
Shakespeare starring Tim Curry as the Bard; while watching this it
came to me that Ron Cook is probably one of the few actors who have
played both Lady Anne and Richard III(Ron's character plays all the
young female roles--until his voice changes). Ron looked very nice
in skirts. Sir Robert Cecil was also in the mix towards the end of
the series and was presented as a rather sinister little fellow.

I worked on Carry on Camping - the famous one where Babs lost her bra
and they painted the mud green! It was October pretending to be summer!
The censor wouldn't allow this line....
Kenneth Williams sees Hattie Jacques struggling to put up her tent.
Hattie complains it's all wobbly. Kenneth replies "Ah yes, the
erection is fairly simple, but it's getting it to stay up that counts!
