No doubt, but there is also a Celtic strain in the Iberian penninsula, and that might play in too. The Spaniards are a melting pot of the ancient and medieval world anyway, having been visited by Greeks, Romans, Carthiginians and Phoenicians as well as the Vandals, the Moors and the Jews. Toss in the Basques, and no one knows for sure where they came from, and some Provencales from across the Pyranees, and you have a nice mix of a soup there.

Enjoyed this discussion. To be honest have the book and will now find time to read it. Mind you I think as long as we are all able to get along together where we came from is just that - part of our dna.

Has anyone else been watching Who Do You Think You Are?

For Bill, other Canadians and any of our USA readers its on the BBC which I believe is available in some parts. Often shows that what you thought you knew about your roots can be misleading.

I look forward to many more discussions on the group, which I think has a great bunch of people on it and many very informative, many fascinating subjects.

Do you need to ask ME that question? Sadly nobody seems to have been
of Plantagenet descent yet, after about 24 programmes.
