I remember this little scam. I don't think it cost all that much. Sort
of like sending fifty bucks to become an ordained minister.

I also remember this concept of "People's Peers". No costs involved
at all but a committee would select the winners. It turned out that
they chose the same kind of people who would have been honoured
anyway.
Of course, the hereditary peers were an independent element in the
Lords.

this is not one of those..buy a title..become a lord of manor scams..
this bbc news link is an article about becoming a verified lifetime peer...it's put on by the brit gov. any citizen of the uk/ireland or brit commonwealth can apply..oh and they have to be over 21.
funny thing is..i caught a bbcnews story shortly after i posted this...the story was about blair now being in trouble for creating four or so lords..who just happened to loan the labour party a significant amount of cash.
so..it looks like katy's comment about the fat wallet might fit. although the article said they were looking for a diversity of social and economic backgrouns as well as women.
i would imagine bbc.com has more particulars on the blair story.
i'm a little too distracted to research it or do a follow up on it, or how current this apply to become a peer campaign url is, right now.

Peerages for cash is hot news in the UK at the moment, with a Scotland Yard investigation under the Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act and the likelihood of Tony Blair being interviewed by the police!

I would like to be Lady Faketitle. Anglicized, of course, from the
spelling as it was when my ancestor came over with William the
