Richard III Lesson Plan

While looking for information on Halsted, I came across this lesson
plan. It uses the same method I used thirty-odd years ago when I taught
Shaw's /St. Joan /to high-schoolers. I spent several lessons the
historical groundwork: examining texts and analyzing artwork related to
Joan of Arc. Many believe that one shouldn't teach all this 'extraneous'
stuff ---that somehow the work should stand on its own---but I always
felt it was important to know what the author chose to portray, why
he'she portrayed it in a certain fashion, and how he/she wished to
portray it. I think that Carolyn Montgomery is correct in teaching kids
how to analyze materials and how to draw conclusions.
