ROBERT DEVEREUX, 3RD EARL OF ESSEX: Parliamentary commander killed in
1645, descended from Isabel of Eu (aunt).
ARTHUR CAPELL, BARON HADHAM: Royalist martyr, captured in Colchester
1648 and beheaded the following year; descended from Anne of Exeter
(sister).
FERDINANDO HASTINGS: Ashby Castle slighted; descended through Catherine
Pole, great-granddaughter of George of Clarence.
GENERAL GEORGE MONCK: Fought as a parliamentarian but restored Charles
II; descended through Viscount Lisle from Edward IV.

Oh, him. I don't believe in him, even if Muriel Byrne does
(fervently). Look at his life: every milestone occurs 20 years too
late to be credible. In my opinion, if there ever was an Arthur Wayte
or Waite, he did not grow up to be this guy.
