I have been trying to add some new photographs, but there seems to
have been a problem today. I had hoped to add to the Henry VIII castle
album - the point about these small castles being that, although they
were built as gun forts, some of them also served as "summer"
residences for Tudor notables. (One of them was, for example, given to
Anne of Cleeves). I believe that, for this reason, the Henrician
castles incorporated deliberately archaic features, to make them look
more castle-like. In this context, St Mawes has sme particularly
ornate features, with have nothing whatsoever to do with Tudor
artillery!
