Newbie with a question

Hi All,
I'm new to this group. I'm neither a scholar nor an historian. I
discovered the Richard III conundrum via my love of mysteries &
Josephine Tey. I'm currently finishing Kendall"s Richard the Third.
I have 2, probably silly, questions.
1) A number of people(Richard, Henry, Henry's mum, & etc) had a motive
to murder the princes but only if people knew the princes were dead. I
can't figure out who benefits if the deaths were kept secret.
2) This is probably really off-the-wall. I haven't seen any evidence
that the princes were, in fact, done away with. IMHO, the main players
act as if the princes were alive. Even Henry acts as if he thought they
could be alive.
Help me out here!
Doris

You are right apart from the fact Henry legitimised them and stayed
on as King - theoretically their claims were superior to his. If you
go back to earlier in the month, you will see my theory: Edward died
of natural causes and Shrewsbury survived to ........ I am not sure
about this bit.

Welcome to our addiction. You couldn't have couched the problem more
eloquently. IMO many of the actors in this drama move in ways that don't
make tremendous sense. We've spent a lot of time conjecturing on 'who
gains'. but no definitive answer arises. There are too many holes in the
information we have. You hit some of the main questions very quickly.
There has been lots written on the era, so dig in .
You might want to have a look at American Branch website, where there
are a lot of primary resources and articles.

Exactly my thought. Their mysterious disappearance benefitted no
one.

Welcome newbie!
You have hit the nail on the head with your questions on the
"disappearance" of the Princes.
This is what "keeps us hanging on." Just one of the mysteries in this
fascinating monarch's story.
Did they indeed expire? Was it murder? Was it "natural causes" for one or
both? Did Richard of York
live to become Perkin Warbeck? Did Richard have the boys removed from the
Tower and secreted away
for their protection prior to Bosworth? So many possibilities..
You can access the archives of this discussion group and find endless
go-rounds on just these
subjects and all things Ricardian. Some silly stuff, too! But endlessly
interesting and thought-provoking
for those of us enthralled by Richard's story.
Hope you have fun on your voyage of discovery!
