Been given the second novel by C. J. Sansom about Tudor lawyer
Shardlake called 'Sovereign'.
If anyone has read it please don't tell me what happens as I'm only
120 pages in.
However it clearly involves a plot against the Tudors that involves
surviving Yorks, as on a mission to York our hero comes across some
hidden papers that include one he as a lawyer has never seen before.
Amazingly to him.
Don't writers do their research properly any more? Do they not have
people to check things?
I ask because this document, mentioned three times in two pages, is
called Titulus Regulus, a bout the legality of the claim to the crown
of King Richard the Third.
yes folks, Titulus REGULUS - not Regius, but REGULUS!
Unless of course this is a plot twist and our hero later on finds a
copy of the real act, spelled properly! I somehow doubt it though.

Hi Paul and all: no, it's actually fine because it doesn't pertain to our Richard at all but to the true descendant of Aeneas and the founders of Rome, the noble House of the Reguli. Titulus Regulus was so named because his father, a lawyer named Legis Regulus, was certain his offspring would come into all his stolen titles, which include all the territories once ruled by the emperors of Rome. As we know, this didn't happen, and though the fate of Titulus is unknown, he probably came to a bad end.

That phrase sounds like a very bad Harry Potter fanfiction.

"Sovereign" is actually the third book in the Matthew Shardlake
series the first was "Dissolution", then "Dark Fire". The author
was/still is a lawyer and has some sort of degree in history so he
shouldn't be shy of research--even the most basic.
I happen to like Sansom's books and look forward to "Revelation"
when it comes out. Master Shardlake has no love for the Tudors.

Just seen in the back of the book Sansom thanking the Richard the
Third Society American Branch for allowing him to download a copy of
the Titulus Regulus! This man has a BA and P.hD in History! Of course
the document at the web site is correctly spelled.
This issue is driving me crazy!!!!!!
