I read somewhere that he was afraid to execute stanley as his sons would relatiate - also by executing hastings was a risk itself

In hindsight would have been better if he had got rid of Stanley as well and exiled Morton, how nice it is to be able to look at things several hundreds of years later. I often wonder it he had killed Tudor at Bosworth, who would have suceeded him eventually, presuming he had not other wife or heirs, my money is on Lincoln.
