Greetings all and:

Hello rgcorris) As you recall the purpose of this forum (see home page) is to discuss "not only Richard himself ... (but) events which affected Richard in his lifetime and shortly before .."

The Cerne Abbas Giant was on the hillside during the entire reign of Richard III, it represented the religious thought that prevailed from Henry II, through Richard III's reign to Henry VIII, who destroyed it). If the prevailing religious thought (as it contrasted to Rome) isn't pertainment than nothing is.

In that the first written reference to it is in 1694, that statement is
in itself contentious. One theory is that it is a Civil War creation
meant to satirise Cromwell. Why don't you set up your own Yahoo forum
to discuss the Giant - it really does not fit into the Ricardian
context.

I don't think he has taken the hint yet - confusing Richard III with
Cromwell's son "Tumbledown Dick", perhaps?

Stephen - his latest totally off-topic post suggests he is a
candidate for having his postings moderating before they appear on
the Forum.

fayre rose
rather than moan about the topic being off topic why not direct him to a more general forum that better meets the discussion, such as
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sceptredisle/

the membership pages says the group "discusses the medieval history of the British Isles (from the fall of Roman Britain to the Reformation). Any period of British history can be discussed, from the Anglo-Saxon peoples, through the eras of Norman and Angevin kingship, right up to the end of the reign of Elizabeth I in 1603."

if the cerne abbas giant is not welcome there, perhaps an isle list member can direct the poster to yet another more appropriate group.
